Hoopfest Academy Eye Catchers

This past Saturday the Hoopfest Tour held it's Jr./Sr. and Freshman/Sophomore Academies in Baton Rouge, LA.  Both academies were well attended with a number of interesting prospects on hand. Let’s look at some guys who caught my eye.

Jr./Sr. Academy Eye Catchers

Sean Mayberry  6’7”  2027  F  Northside                                                            Athletic forward prospect, really moves up and down the floor, strong athletic finisher around the rim, good hands and finishes on the lob, active rebounder and showed the ability to block shots.

Hector Ruiz  6’7”  2027  F  St. Stanislaus                                                             Skilled well built forward prospect, strong ball skills and an accomplished passer, good finisher around the rim, active on the boards and moves up and down the floor very well.

Easton Plaisance  6’3”  2028  WG  Central Leflore                                           Long armed wing who was very active on the day, very active defensively, showed that he is a good shooter who can stick the three ball, solid ball handler but moves well off the ball, gets out in transition well.

Rafael Cohen  6’2”  2027  PG  St. Stanislaus                                                      Big bodied skilled ballhandler who really attacks the rim, seeks out contact and plays and finishes extremely well thru it. A nifty passer who can set up teammates off of his drives. Active hands on defense and caused a number of deflections.

Dominick McCoy  6’4”  2028  WF  Hammond                                                    Active wing who showed a nose for the ball, was active on the offensive glass, showed he could stick the open jumper and showed the ability to finish in traffic and around the rim.

Jordan Scott  6’2”  2027  G   Thrive Academy                                                   Crafty combo who played with energy, solid ballhandler who can get to the rim, showed he has a solid jumper with range, active hands on defense.

Michael Walton  6’5”  2027  F  St. Stanislaus                                                   Wiry long armed forward prospect, really gets up and down the floor, shot the ball well and was active on the glass and around the rim, good finisher around the rim.

Freshman/Sophomore Academy Eye Catchers

Mason Dauterive  6’4”  2029  F  North Vermillion                                           Long tall skilled wing whose maturity really stood out, very good with the ball in his hands attacking the defense, scored it well and played thru contact very well, active on the offensive glass, moved well without the ball. Was very impressive.

Tavarius Turner  6’0”  2029  G  Pleasant Hill                                                   Broad shouldered wing who just made plays all day, poised with the ball in his hands and made good decisions, shot the ball very well showing he could shoot with range and in the midrange, found open teammates, got his hands on lots of balls.

Laken James  6’7”  2029  F  Central                                                                   Active big who got up and down the floor very well, rebounded the defensive board at a high rate, and showed the ability to finish around the rim on offense. Really fights for position and shows nice physicality in his play.

Daniel Westley  5’4”  2029  G  Geo Next Generation School                     Small but talented guard, skilled ballhandler who has a very crafty game and just made plays, showed ability to get his shot off and shot the ball well and finished with craftiness around the rim, hung around the rim and stole a hand full of rebounds and showed a knack for getting his hands on the ball and making plays.
